Nothing beats the summer heat like enjoying a day at the swimming pool! Before you do a cannonball into the water, brush up on your pool safety tips and check to see if your public pool meets state requirements.
Safety in the Pool
There are many different elements to be aware of when it comes to being safe in the water, such as you and your party’s ability to swim, your attention to children, and drain safety. Even if the pool you are visiting has lifeguards on duty, it is your responsibility to be safe while swimming. Learn more about keeping you and others safe in the pool by reviewing these pool safety tips.
Safety Near the Pool
Pool safety isn’t only about what you do in the water, but the decisions you make outside of the water as well! Here are four quick tips to remember:
Walk, Don’t Run. Walk when you are navigating the pool deck. Running and horseplay can increase the likelihood of slipping and getting injured.
Only Dive in Designated Areas. Do not dive in any pool areas except those that are clearly marked as a safe diving area. Diving in shallow waters can result in significant injury.
Wear Sunscreen. Don't forget to protect your skin from sunburn and skin cancer by applying sunscreen regularly.
Respect Pool Barriers. Do not climb fences or try to enter a public swimming facility when it is closed or unattended.
